There has been a lot of scientific research done in recent years to offer significant evidence that clothes, such as activewear, can have a positive influence on our thought patterns and behavior. Researchers call it “Enclothed Cognition”. They believe that the clothes we wear, create sensations which signals an emotion within us. Hence, wearing athletic clothing can stimulate you towards activity.
I myself believe in the power of clothes. I believe that they speak to you and that they tell a story. For example, if you have a job interview, you wear your best outfit to symbolise your confidence and pride. You are sending a message that you are capable and the best person for the job.
If you have had a busy day at work, you go home and change in to your comfiest track suit which immediately relaxes and calms you.
If you are involved in a team sport, the minute you put on your club jersey, you straight away feel the camaraderie and pride within the club. You feel a connection that makes you want to perform better.
Activewear works in the same way. It triggers an emotional response within you which says it is time to get your body moving. Just by putting on your gym outfit can increase your energy levels and your mental mindset.
Activewear can motivate and inspire you as it is associated with health, fitness and lifestyle. It helps you to feel more focused, stronger, positive, excited and more likely to keep you committed to your exercise goals. I know it works for me. As soon as I put on my leggings and sports top, I straight away feel my attitude change. I feel more determined and ready to give my best.
Why not test this theory out for yourself. Start to become aware of how you are feeling when you are wearing your favorite activewear.
- Does it stir up a visual image of you working out?
- Do you feel an increase in your energy levels?
- Do you notice your attitude change?
- Do you ever add a powerful mantra when you are putting your activewear on?
- Do you notice any significant increase in your motivation and mindset?
Please feel free to leave a comment. I would love to get your feedback.
